FreeHolocaust Memorial Day is marked each year on 27 January, the anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau. It’s a time to remember the millions of lives taken during the Holocaust under Nazi persecution and in subsequent genocides in Cambodia, Bosnia, Rwanda, Darfur and the Yazidi genocide, as well as those who survived these horrific events.
This year’s Holocaust Memorial Day commemorates the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau, the largest Nazi death camp, and 30 years since the genocide in Bosnia.
The council's service will feature performances, readings and multi-faith prayers.
