Support you could get
We offer some support for free without you needing an assessment.
Without an assessment, we can help you:
- get advice on welfare rights, benefits and housing
- find other services in Royal Greenwich
- connect to local community groups and the NHS
- find providers who offer grants for assistive technology
- find training in using Braille or British Sign Language
- with applications for travel passes, permits or railcards
- get advice on Text Relay if you use a textphone
- find the right equipment that can help you live independently and help you instal it
Support you may be eligible for after an assessment
For some equipment and council sensory support, you will need an assessment.
An assessment is not a test. It’s a way for us to understand your strengths, situation and what goals or changes you would like to make in your life.
Support may include:
- travel and daily living skills training to help you get around safely and live independently
- equipment such as flashing doorbells, television amplifiers, alerting services
- BSL interpreters
- getting you registered as sight impaired. You can also register yourself as vision impaired
You will need to contact your eye or hearing clinic if you need:
- magnifying glasses
- magnifiers
- hearing aids
