We can help with essential jobs around your home.  

You do not need to be a council tenant to use our handyperson service. 

Jobs may include:  

  • checking or installing smoke alarms  
  • putting up or taking down curtains, curtain rails or blinds 
  • changing fluorescent light tubes 
  • putting up shelves 
  • replacing toilet seats 
  • setting central heating 
  • bleeding radiators 
  • minor plumbing jobs 
  • minor electrical jobs 
  • minor carpentry jobs 
  • clearing out gutters  

If you are on a low or get certain benefits, we can help with more jobs such as: 

  • small repairs 
  • minor plumbing 
  • minor carpentry 

We will tell you what other jobs we can do when you contact us.  

Jobs we cannot help with 

If you rent your home, we cannot help with repairs as these are your landlord's responsibility. 

If you own your own home, we may still be able to help with larger essential repairs or improvements. Contact us to find out more. 

We may suggest an agency who can help with jobs we cannot do such as: 

  • gardening 
  • painting 
  • putting up fencing

Costs 

If you are over 60 or disabled, we will help with essential jobs around your home for free.  

This includes helping with jobs that have high risk of falls such as: 

  • changing simple light bulbs 
  • installing grab rails 
  • removing trip hazards 

Some other jobs may be free if you get benefits such as housing benefit, or guaranteed pension credit.  

You may get a lower rate if you’re older or disabled and need help with the works.  

How to pay  

We’ll give you an estimate cost over the phone or visit you and give a written estimate.  

After we’ve done the job, we’ll send you an invoice.
