You can convert a same-sex civil partnership into a marriage with the Royal Borough of Greenwich by having a:
- simple conversion with a deputy superintendent registrar at the register office
- renewal of vows and signing of the declaration at the register office
- renewal of vows and signing of the declaration at a licensed venue of your choice
You both need to attend the register office and bring along certain identification documents to complete the declaration.
You need to bring:
- proof of identity showing your name and date of birth, for example, passport or birth certificate
- your civil partnership certificate
- proof of residence
You can provide any of the following as evidence of proof of residence:
- a utility bill dated no more than 3 months before the date on which the conversion is taking place
- a bank or building society statement or passbook dated no more than 1 month before the date the conversion is taking place
- a council tax bill dated no more than 1 year before the date on which the conversion is taking place
- a mortgage statement dated no more than 1 year before the date on which the conversion is taking place
- a current residential tenancy agreement and a recent rent receipt
- a valid driving licence
You cannot convert an opposite-sex civil partnership to a marriage in England and Wales.
Costs
For a simple conversion, you'll pay:
- £45 for the ceremony
- £11 each for a certificate.
For a renewal of vows at the register office, you'll pay:
- £27 statutory administration fees
- £45 for the ceremony
- £11 each for a certificate.
For a renewal of vows at a venue of your choice, you'll pay:
- £27 statutory administration fees
- the cost of the registrar to attend the venue, which including the ceremony and certificate costs
When you'll get your certificate
If you're having a renewal of vows ceremony, you sign the declaration and get your certificate on the day of your ceremony.
If you're having a simple conversion, you sign the declaration and get the certificate on the same day.
