Childminders are trained, self-employed carers who usually provide care from their own homes. They can offer you more flexible working hours and look after children up to 8 years old.
Childminders can charge from £4 to £7 per child per hour. This usually includes food, nappies and any outings but some childminders may charge extra fees. Some childminders offer free early years entitlement.
All childminders must register with Ofsted and are regularly inspected.
