While not an official nature reserve, parts of the park are designated conservation areas.
Dot Hill, located to the north of the Shrewsbury Park, is a former allotment site that has now reverted to grassland and scrub. It is what is known as emergent woodland. There are all sorts of shrub species growing here that attract a variety of birds. A small stream runs at the eastern end, lined with great hairy willow herb. - Sports and play areas
