Blackheath Halls Orchestra Course: Holst The Planets

Blackheath Halls Orchestra are excited to be playing Holst’s The Planets this Autumn – a fabulous and ambitious piece.

Rehearsing from Wednesday 9 October we will be working towards presenting two concerts on Sunday 24 November.

Performance 1 at 4pm This will be a family concert presented by Aga Serugo Lubo. The concert will last approximately 45 minutes and Aga will present three of the planets from the suite with narrative to engage a family audience. We will also be joined by a Primary School group who will present their own composition inspired by The Planets

Performance 2 at 7pm The orchestra will perform the full suite as well as The Needles, a short overture by Matthew Taylor in celebration of his 60th birthday

Sunday 3 November 2.30pm – 5.30pm
Thursday 7 November 7pm – 10pm
Sunday 10 November 2.30pm – 5.30pm
Sunday 17 November 2.30pm – 5.30pm
Sunday 24 November 1pm – 3.30pm dress rehearsal

Sectionals
Strings and woodwind: Sunday 13 October 10.30am – 1.30pm
Brass and Percussion: timings tbc

As a very large orchestra is required to play this piece, we are looking for more players to come and join us for this exciting project.

We need to recruit:

• A few more violins and violas
• Cor anglais
• Contra bassoon
• 2 French horns
• 3 trumpets
• 1 trombone
• 1 bass trombone
• 1 tenor tuba
