Who can get an assessment
You can ask for a carer’s assessment if:
- you do not get paid to care for the person
- you are over 18 and care for someone over 18 who has care needs
- you are nearly 18 and are likely to continue to care for someone after turning 18
- the person you care for lives in the Royal Borough of Greenwich
You may get some support if you live in the Royal Borough of Greenwich, but you may get more if you do this through the local authority the person you care for lives in.
If you're under 18, find support for young carers.
Why someone may need support
Care or support needs could be due to:
- being frail in older age
- having a long-term illness
- a physical disability or sensory impairment
- a learning disability
- a mental health condition
- autism
- a drug or alcohol addiction
You may have one or a few of these needs.
Support the person you care for may need
The care may include personal tasks such as:
- bathing or dressing
- shopping, cooking or eating
- emotional support
- managing medication or finances for someone else
- going with or taking someone to health appointments or social activities
