Breaks and sitting services

Breaks can give you and the person you care for a chance to meet new people and do new things.

You may need a break to go to urgent appointments or get medical care yourself.

It may also give you some time chance to do tasks you cannot do when caring for someone.

The breaks could be:

  • regular short breaks for a few hours or overnight breaks
  • day care schemes
  • sitting services
  • befriending schemes

How to arrange care

If you have a care and support plan, we can refer you to the right team to arrange the care you need.

This could be:

  • day care schemes with educational, social and leisure activities
  • residential care centres
  • adult placement schemes to stay in a carers own home locally or in holiday locations

We inspect all carers’ adult placement schemes and residential centres regularly.

We try to arrange for the person you care for to visit the home and meet carers first. This is to make sure they’re looked after by the carers that best suit your needs.

There may be a small charge for overnight stays which they will talk to you about at your first assessment meeting.
