How we work out how much you need to pay

If you have more than £23,250 in savings or assets, you will pay the whole cost of your care.

You will also need to pay an admin fee of £4.85 per peek.

If you have less than this and cannot afford to pay for your care, we will do a financial assessment.

This is not a test. It is how we see how much you can afford to pay towards your care.

We calculate this by looking at:

  • income
  • savings
  • investments, bonds, stocks or shares you have
  • land or property you own
  • what you spend your money on each month

The calculation is:

  • your total weekly income and some of your savings over £14,250
  • minus your weekly expenses
  • equals your maximum weekly contribution

Weekly expenses include things like rent, mortgage payments and council tax. We do not include utility bills.

If your care costs less than your maximum, you only pay the cost of your care.

If your care is more than your maximum, the council pays the rest.
