You may be able to get help from the Seaside and Country Homes scheme. The scheme helps around 150 households move out of London each year.
Who can apply
To apply for the scheme you need to be:
- a council or housing association tenant
- at least 55 years old
- able to live independently
Financial benefits
Council tenants moving through the seaside and country homes scheme are eligible for:
- moving costs
- disturbance costs, such as packing and disconnecting appliances
Council and housing association tenants moving to a home with fewer bedrooms are eligible for £1,000 for each spare room given up.
Available properties
The scheme offers:
- around 250 vacancies a year
- flats and bungalows
You should consider that properties may:
- be some distance from shops and other amenities
- have limited bus services
- not be suitable if you have a severe medical condition
Location of properties
Properties are located in coastal and countryside areas. These range from Cornwall in the south-west to Norfolk on the east coast. There are also properties in the Midlands and Lincolnshire.
