Energy efficiency improvements

We’re making our council homes more energy efficient to improve living conditions for residents.  We’ve begun our first major retrofit programme to our council homes.

This is a £21 million investment to improve the energy efficiency of more than 600 council homes in Horn Park, Horn Fair and Charlton. This investment includes a £5.3 million grant from the Social Housing Decarbonisation Fund.

Energy efficiency improvements will be made to the building fabric (windows, doors, walls, roofs) and ventilation systems of council homes. These improvements will reduce the:

  • amount of heat lost from homes

  • amount of energy needed to heat homes in the winter which would lower energy bills

  • risk of damp, mould and condensation in homes

Improvements will also be made to the heating systems in council homes to reduce the carbon emissions. This might mean replacing an existing boiler with a more efficient boiler, or with a low-carbon heating system such as a heat pump.
