Inclusive Economy Strategy

We're working on a strategy to tackle economic inequality in the borough.

Through this strategy we will:

  • make sure growth and investment in Greenwich benefits all residents
  • put people, place and planet at the heart of economic development
  • build on our history of cooperative development
  • make use of anchor organisations. These are large organisations like the council, that are major employers in the borough, have land assets and purchasing power
  • use the area's history, politics, partners and institutions to develop a Greenwich model of economic development

Redirect growth back into the local community

We will use economic development to redirect growth back into the local economy. This will give more control and benefits to local people.

We want to influence the way wealth is created and how it is passed on so that:

  • less money is lost
  • more wealth is owned and controlled locally
  • residents benefit from more opportunities which leads to improved wellbeing

Our Community Wealth Building Strategy

The Greenwich Model sets out how we will work with other institutions and partners to build an inclusive local economy.

We commissioned the Centre for Local Economic Strategies to develop a Community Wealth Building Strategy that meets the unique needs and priorities of the Royal Borough of Greenwich.

Our priorities include:

  • investing in our Anchored in Greenwich partnership to build a more inclusive economy in the borough
  • using our Inclusive Economy Strategy to guide economic development in Greenwich
  • redirecting growth into the local economy to target racial and gender wealth gaps
  • using our spending and employment power, and our land and assets to achieve these goals
