Tell us what it’s like to be a carer in Royal Greenwich
We are looking for carers in Royal Greenwich to share their stories and experiences with us. The time that carers dedicate, and the love and patience that they show, is irreplaceable. Carers deserve to be recognised and celebrated for their vital contributions to our people and communities.
In October 2022, the Royal Borough of Greenwich launched a new Joint Adult Carers Strategy, which set out how we would work with the South East London Integrated Care System to support carers in the borough. Our commitment was based on three key points - the Care Act, the NHS’s Long-Term Plan, and the Council’s Vision for Health and Adults Services.
We have now reached the end of the first year of the strategy, and would like use this milestone as an opportunity to celebrate our carers who make such a difference to the lives of thousands of people across our borough.
Cllr Denise Scott-McDonald, Cabinet Member for Health and Adults’ Social Care said:
“Society would not function without the invaluable contributions of our carers. Too often, they are left unsupported and undervalued. We want to make it easier for carers to access help when they need it, raise awareness of the local services on offer, and share the stories of the people who do such in incredible work.
We are committed to continuing to listen and learn what is most important to our carers as we continue to work toward implementing the commitments within our strategy, and celebrating the vital contribution of carers in across our borough.”
Do you or someone you know have experience of caring for a family member or loved one?
We are looking for people with experience of caring to take part in an upcoming campaign, to share their story, and speak about their experiences. We want to hear about your journey to becoming a carer, the challenges you may have faced and how you have overcome them, what’s important to you as a carer, and some of the highs and lows you have experienced whilst caring. Your answers may be filmed on camera for us to use as part of a campaign video and on social media, or they may be shared on our website as a written feature.
Whether you care for someone with a learning disability, are looking after older an older person, or provide any other kind of care – we want to hear your story.
If you are interested in taking part in this campaign, please get in touch with us at carers-campaign@royalgreenwich.gov.uk.
We know that being a carer can sometimes be overwhelming and difficult. There are a range of services that can help and support you to care on our website.
