You make Greenwich, your voice matters : Help us create a borough that works for everyone
As part of Our Greenwich, our corporate plan for the next four years, developed with residents, the Council has committed to collaborating more often and working more deeply with our communities.
For that reason, we are creating a Community Engagement Framework to build on the Council’s current good work with communities, drive forward improvements, and act as a guide for how we consult and engage in the future.
We are asking for the thoughts, ideas and suggestions from our residents on how we are currently liaising with you and for your feedback on our proposed draft framework.
Councillor Anthony Okereke, Leader of the Royal Borough of Greenwich, said, “We want to create a borough that works for everyone. To do that we need you to raise your voice so that we have a better understanding of what matters to residents, and you have great opportunities to shape important decisions that impact you – to make the services we provide the best that they can be.
“You make Greenwich. All of us working together, collaborating, discussing, consulting and designing services will lead to a more effective and representative council.
“Complete our short survey to tell us how you think we can be better at listening to you and making plans which can respond to your views or why not come along to one of our in person sessions and events to learn more and shape the engagement framework?
“We would like to hear from everyone in the borough and your voice matters – so please share the survey with your friends, family and neighbours.”
The draft framework provides:
-
guidance for the council to be consistent whilst delivering high quality resident and community involvement activity with residents
-
recognises and promotes good practice in consultation and resident and community engagement where it exists at the council
-
an established system to enable quality assurance and standards on all aspects of community engagement
-
an outline for monitoring outcomes and performance
-
residents, council officers, and councillors with a clear understanding of the decision-making process.
The Council is responsible for hundreds of services from housing to rubbish and recycling, registering births, deaths and marriages, to adult social care, children’s services, planning applications and much more. There are many times when our residents, tenants, partners and wider community need to be consulted to find out what they think about significant changes or proposals that affect them. Sometimes this is because we have a legal duty to do so, but also for other reasons, such as to improve policy and decision making, encourage greater participation, get new ideas, or to make our services better.
