Celebrating the resilience of children in our care

The Royal Borough of Greenwich recognised the extraordinary achievements of its children and young people in care at the annual Children in Care Education Achievement awards.
The evening, held on Friday 11 October at The Valley, celebrated inspirational stories from children as young as two.
A council spokesperson said:
“These awards are living proof of children and young people reaching their full potential in Royal Greenwich, despite challenges so early on in life.
“Success looks different to everyone – from having exceptional exam results and starting a career to your learning animals and practicing colouring - we are so proud of every single one of them.
“Every winner and nominee have displayed incredible resilience and understanding. They are a credit to their families and our borough, and the future is bright for them all.”
Awards were given for the following categories:
- Academic achievement and progress
- Achieving in all areas of school life
- Determination to succeed
- Wider educational achievement
- Developing a positive attitude to education
- Participating in Jamie’s Farm Virtual school
- Participating in Summer club
Special awards were also given out for Sports Personality of the Year, Developing Resilience and Maturity, Outstanding Achievement in the Arts, among others.
Daisy, Winner of Developing Resilience and Maturity award said:
"I like the awards ceremony because you get to know what other children have been achieving."
Our selfless foster carers play a huge role in helping shape the future of young people in care. We urgently need more foster carers to provide children and young people with a safe and caring home while they are unable to live with their own families.
