Four people caught misusing Blue Badges in Greenwich
We are cracking down on Blue Badge misuse, with four more successful prosecutions at Bexley Magistrates Court in July and August.
On 31 July, Ronnie Lee Slack, a Global Accounts Manager from Woolwich Road, Greenwich, pleaded guilty to the misuse of a Blue Badge on 22 September 2023. The badge belonged to a deceased relative who had passed away six months prior. Slack was fined £415, with an added £166 victim surcharge and £878 in prosecution costs.
On 31 July, James McDermott, of Ripon Road, Plumstead, pled guilty to using a deceased person's Blue Badge on 25 September 2023. McDermott was fined £120, with a £48 victim surcharge and £940.25 in prosecution costs.
On 14 August, Fatema Begum, of Downs Park Road, Dalston, East London, was found guilty of failing to name the driver of her vehicle misusing the Blue Badge. The vehicle was found in the borough displaying a stolen Blue Badge on 24 October 2023. Begum was fined £220, with an £88 victim surcharge and £85 in prosecution costs.
On the same day, Vandon Nguyen, of Holburne Road, Blackheath, admitted to displaying a stolen Blue Badge, on 6 October 2023, that he found on the pavement near his workplace. Nguyen parked in a designated disabled bay and was fined £167, with a £67 victim surcharge and £85 in prosecution costs.
Misusing a Blue Badge is a criminal offence and those found guilty can face prosecution and fines of up to £1,000.
