Key partners and community leaders were welcomed to Woolwich Town Hall to discuss how we can work together to tackle the biggest issues facing Royal Greenwich.

The Our Greenwich summit saw over 100 guests including faith leaders, community activists, health partners, police and politicians gather under one roof to share ideas and discuss how we can work together to deliver our shared objectives.

Our Greenwich is the Council’s four-year strategic plan, based around 20 missions for a better borough and commitment to genuine partnership working.

With the Council facing significant demand and cost pressures next year, we need to work in innovative ways to find solutions – and make tough decisions.

The event also featured updates on our journey to improve resident engagement, our emerging anti-poverty strategy and the launch of our new Inclusive Economy Strategy.

Councillor Anthony Okereke, Leader of the Royal Borough of Greenwich, said: “In Our Greenwich, I set out a vision to improve the quality of life and health of residents. Two years in, and I was pleased to have over 100 key partners in the same room to discuss our missions and plan how we deliver what we’ve started.

“After 14 years of gruelling government austerity, culminating in the chaos we’ve all witnessed over the last two years, there is definitely a sense of optimism about this next chapter.

“While I’m certain things can only get better, there’s still work to do right here, right now. That’s why we invited cross-industry partners to discuss our ambitious plans to tackle poverty, improve community engagement and serve residents who need us.

“Our Greenwich may be the council’s corporate plan, but it belongs to everyone who wants Greenwich to be the best place to live, work and study – and that’s why we opened our doors to feedback and suggestions from those who have alternative experiences and expertise.

“The council will work closely with the new government to lobby for our partners on the things that matter, like fairer funding and support for vulnerable communities. But in the meantime, we have 20 missions that we’re determined to deliver on and we need to be bold and innovative to do so.

“Thank you to everyone who took the time to join us to speak about our joint progress and challenges, and I look forward to taking on the next two years together."
