People with a learning disability want to be seen, heard and valued. The Royal Borough of Greenwich is proud to be supporting Learning Disability Week 2024 from 17 to 23 June, joining Mencap’s national campaign to celebrate diversity and inclusion.

The council is organising and supporting a series of events throughout the week, aimed at celebrating the talents and contributions of people with learning disabilities to our community. We would like to encourage residents to participate in the events, show their support, and embrace the spirit of unity and diversity that defines Learning Disability Week.

The theme for this year's Learning Disability Week is "Do you see me?”. By championing Learning Disability Week, the council aims to spread awareness, break down barriers, and celebrate the unique abilities of every individual.

A Council spokesperson said:

“It’s our mission to help residents live their best lives, free from discrimination. People with a learning disability can achieve incredible things. We want to make sure they feel seen and recognised for the valuable contributions they make to our communities. We want to celebrate differences, promote acceptance, and create a more inclusive society for all.”

“Through walking, music, dance, singing, and sports we’re proud to showcase the talents, self-identity, resilience and dynamism of our learning disability community. The events are all open to the public. Please come and join us. We’d love to see you there!”
