A statement from Cllr Anthony Okereke, Leader of the Royal Borough of Greenwich:

The tragic events in Southport last week have shocked us all. I want to send sincere condolences to the families and friends of those killed and injured, on behalf everyone at the Royal Borough of Greenwich.

“The shocking violence that has followed in other cities around the UK, intended to drive hate and division, is an insult to their memories. Greenwich is proud to be united against such hate and we utterly condemn this mindless criminality.

“We’ll be reaching out to faith leaders and local organisations to reassure them of our commitment to working together and supporting our communities who may be affected or worried by these events.”

If you’ve experienced or witnessed a hate crime, report it to the police by calling 101. In an emergency, always call 999.

You can also call Stop Hate UK’s 24-hour helpline on 0800 138 1625 to report incidents and get support.
