A statement from the Council and local faith and community leaders
“Our Greenwich is a Borough of Sanctuary.
"Last week, we saw the nation stand together peacefully against the small minority of people intent on dividing us through violence and hatred. The message was clear; racism, hatred and violence have no place here.
"Although there was not any intelligence to suggest that there was planned disorder in our borough we understand many will still be feeling worried by recent events. The Council, with local faith and community leaders, will continue to work closely together with the Metropolitan Police to keep residents safe.
“As a Borough of Sanctuary, we have a proud history as a welcoming and open place that people of all backgrounds are free to call home. No amount of hate and violence will ever change that. We call for all residents and the wider community to continue to treat each other with dignity and respect. Please check in on loved ones and neighbours and report any concerns.”
