A statement from the Council on the one year anniversary of 7 October

A Council spokesperson said:  

"It is heartbreaking that one year on there is still no peace for the people of Israel, or the Occupied Palestinian Territories, and conflict has now spread to Lebanon too.  

"The catastrophic loss of life during the last year is on a scale that is difficult to comprehend. Our condolences and prayers continue to go to all the people affected by the devastating situation – including our staff and residents.  

"We must all stand with humanity and hope for peace. We would urge all our communities to remain united and to continue to be tolerant to one another. We have a proud tradition of ensuring our borough is a safe and welcoming place for all who chose to call it home. Long may it continue to be so.  

"Like the rest of the world, we hope the conflict is resolved as soon as possible."
