Statement on extension of Household Support Fund
Councillor Jackie Smith, Cabinet Member for Inclusive Economy, Business, Skills and Greenwich Supports said:
“We are pleased that the government has extended the Household Support Fund. We have long lobbied for this lifeline to be extended as we know how pivotal this money has become. This decision will now enable councils such as ours to continue to support residents throughout the winter. This will be a huge relief to people who are worried about heating their homes, or paying for their groceries, and will reduce some of the strain on the NHS which faces huge demand during the cold months.
“Over a decade of austerity has brought unprecedented levels of poverty. The extension of this initiative is crucial, and we will continue to work with the new government to tackle poverty in Royal Greenwich.”
