West and east Greenwich traffic management scheme update: We're making changes based on your feedback

Friday 6 December 2024

We are acting on feedback following the launch of the new traffic management scheme in west and east Greenwich.

The 18-month trial, which is designed to improve air quality and road safety, began on Wednesday 27 November.

New road signs explaining the part-time weekday camera-enforced (7am to 10am and 3pm to 7pm) restrictions are being installed. We’ve been listening to what communities have told us over the last week, and to ensure we’re as clear as possible, we will be reviewing, changing or removing certain signs which have caused some confusion.

We will be extending the grace period to 2 January 2025 while we make these changes.

Roads with restrictions will still be open to people walking, cycling, and using wheelchairs and every address will still be accessible by car - however in some instances people driving may have to take a different route.

This is an important scheme for the borough, and we want to know what you think of it in practice. Please continue to share your feedback at visit royalgreenwich.gov.uk/greener-safer-greenwich, to help us shape and improve the scheme.

Blue badge holders who live in the borough, can apply for an exemption as well as other individuals and organisations that meet specific criteria.  Vehicles which are registered with TfL as taxis, including both black cab (Hackney Carriage Licence vehicles) and private hire vehicles do not need to apply and will be automatically exempt. Full details on exemptions and how to apply can be found at royalgreenwich.gov.uk/traffic-management-scheme.

How to give your feedback:

We want residents, local businesses and stakeholders in west and east Greenwich to share their feedback throughout this trial. Here’s how:

  • Consultation: visit royalgreenwich.gov.uk/greener-safer-greenwich to share your thoughts and experiences during the trial.
  • Paper consultation: pick one up at West Greenwich or Greenwich Centre libraries or request a paper survey by emailing traffic.management@royalgreenwich.gov.uk
  • Upcoming events: we’ll be holding in-person events where you can meet Council officers, ask questions, and give feedback on the trial. All dates and locations will be published on the Council’s website, our consultation portal and social media channels.
