Remembering Stephen Lawrence
Tuesday 22 April marked 32 years since the unprovoked racist murder of Stephen Lawrence. Our thoughts are with his family, his friends and everyone who knew and loved him.
Since Stephen Lawrence Day was established in 2019, it has given us the opportunity to honour and remember Stephen’s life and legacy. It’s important that we continue to share Stephen’s story with the next generation, to keep his memory alive. Unfortunately, we still face the challenge of discrimination in our society. We must stand up to racism, in all its forms, and never stop working to make our borough a place where everyone is inspired, encouraged and supported to realise their full potential, without barriers or discrimination.
There’s so much inspirational work being done in Stephen’s name, and I encourage everyone to visit the Stephen Lawrence Day Foundation website and explore the resources they have available to help young minds succeed in today’s world. Together we can learn from the tragedy of Stephen’s death and use his legacy to motivate ourselves to drive forward the changes we still need in our society.
