Two successful convictions of businesses which sold cigarettes and vapes to children

Two Woolwich businesses and members of their staff have been fined and convicted of selling illegal cigarettes and a vape to children following council investigations.

In May 2025, a member of staff working at Euro-Market on Hare Street in Woolwich sold a fifteen-year-old test purchaser a packet of non-UK compliant cigarettes. On 8 April, Mr Hakimi appeared in Bexley Magistrates Court and pleaded guilty to the charges, receiving fines and costs totalling £1,258.

In a separate case, Mr Adeelaslam, whilst working at a concession stall outside of convenience store Confectionary Box on Woolwich New Road, sold a vape to a fifteen-year-old test purchaser. On 22 April Mr Adeelaslam and the business owner Mr Ali, both pleaded guilty to the sale at Bexley Magistrates Court. The pair received fines and costs of £896 and apologised in court, accepting what they did was wrong.
