What hazardous waste is  

Hazardous waste is waste that is harmful to people or the environment.  

This includes items like:

  • antifreeze, white spirit, adhesives, mastic, petrol and diesel
  • bleach, ammonia and drain cleaners
  • household cleaning products and toilet cleaners
  • garden chemicals, pesticides and weed killers
  • paint 

How to get rid of hazardous household waste

You’ll need to book a collection with the City of London to get rid of hazardous household waste. This service is free and only available to private households.

A household can only book:  

  • a collection of up to 50kg of waste  
  • up to 3 collections a year

If you have asbestos sheets or bags, take them to the Reuse and Recycling Centre.

Getting rid of hazardous business waste 

If you're a business, charity or school, you’ll need to:

  • contact the City of London on 020 7332 3433
  • use a private contractor to dispose of your hazardous waste
