Supporting you as a foster carer

Allocated social worker

If you’re approved as a foster carer, we’ll allocate you a supervising social worker to support you in carrying out your role and advise you on your development needs.

The children or young people that you'll care for will have their own social worker.

Ongoing support

When you first become a foster carer, we’ll pay you a setting up grant. This is to make sure that you’re properly equipped when a child or young person is placed with you.

We’ll pay you a weekly allowance to:

  • cover the cost of the child or children
  • pay for your time and efforts

The allowance can increase as you develop your knowledge, skills and experience.

You can also access extensive training and development programmes, as well as ongoing support from other professionals and foster carers.
