Using your home to pay for your care

We do not include the value of your home when calculating how much you pay towards home care or community support. 

We may use it if you’re moving into residential or nursing home and no one else is living in your home full time.  

If you have savings under £23,250, we will not include your home when we calculate your care charges for up to 12 weeks from the date you moved into a care home.   

If you do not want to sell your home, you may be able to use the deferred payment scheme to pay your residential or nursing fees. We then claim the fees back when you sell your home.
