If we cannot help you repair a problem, you can try to fix it yourself or hire a company to fix it for you.

Doing the work yourself

If you decide to do the work yourself, be safe: do not put yourself or anyone else in danger. We may inspect the standard of the work you've carried out.

You must ask our permission first if you want to make changes or improvements to your home.

Using companies to fix things for you

Only use competent and qualified companies to fix things in your home.

Handyperson service

If you're over 60 or disabled, our handyperson service may be able to do some minor repairs for you. For example, like fix a broken toilet seat and change light bulbs.

Kitchen or bathroom fittings

Any fitting or replacement work in kitchens or bathrooms must comply with Part P of the Building Regulations. You must hire a qualified electrician who will give you a certificate to say that the work is safe. You can call us for help:

Gas or pipes 

Only Gas Safe-registered people can fit, alter or remove gas appliances or pipework. If you have any problems with your gas, call us for help on 0800 317 715.

Asbestos

Asbestos can be extremely dangerous - do not touch it yourself.
