Find someone to manage your benefits

If you cannot manage your benefits, another person may be able to help you. This person is called an appointee.

This may be:

  • someone you trust like a friend or family member
  • an organisation or a person who can represent you like a solicitor or a local council

Any benefits you get will go to the person selected to manage your benefits. They must use it in your best interest.

The Department for Work and Pensions will check:

  • if you need help to manage your benefits
  • the person applying to manage your benefits is suitable and can be trusted
