Check if you need permission for a driveway

Depending on where you live, you may need permission from us or your landlord.

Do not build your driveway until we've approved your dropped kerb application.

Planning permission

You will need planning permission if:

  • you live in a flat or maisonette
  • you live on a classified road
  • you live in a conservation area
  • your driveway does not meet drainage requirements
  • your property or boundary wall is listed

Check if your road is classified:

Landlord permission

If you rent your property and it does not have a driveway, you must get your landlord's permission to build one first.

Council tenants

If you're a council tenant, we are your landlord. You must get permission from our Housing team.
