What to do if the person you care for dies

If the person you care for dies, there are four things you need to do in the first few days.

  1. Get a medical certificate from a doctor (GP or at a hospital). You'll need this to register the death.
  2. Register the death within five days. You'll then get the documents you need for the funeral.
  3. Find the will - The person's solicitor may have a copy if you cannot find one.
  4. Begin funeral arrangements. You'll need to check the will for any special requests.
