Who you can hire

You can hire someone you know if you’re hiring your own personal assistant.  

If you’re using direct payments to hire a personal assistant, you cannot hire: 

  • your partner if you live in the same house 
  • someone who manages your personal budget for you (your suitable person) 
  • anyone who lives in your home 
  • anyone who does not have a legal right to work in the UK
