You'll get the offer notice within 8 weeks if you're buying a house, or 12 weeks if you're buying a flat or maisonette.

If you decide to accept the offer, you should:

  • begin to arrange a mortgage
  • arrange a full structural survey. Your mortgage lender may be able to do this for you
  • choose a solicitor to act for you in the legal process

If you disagree with the valuation

You can appeal to the District Valuer if you're not happy with the quoted price. They'll make an independent valuation.

The valuation made by the District Valuer is usually final, even if it's higher than the original offer.

If you still disagree with the valuation you can ask for a 'review of a determination of value' if you think:

  • the District Valuer made a significant error
  • they did not consider information provided by you or your landlord - they must do this by law

Read more about what to do if you're not happy with the valuatio (Own Your Home).
